How your Zakat is calculated
Zakat is 2.5% of your net wealth, and it becomes due when two conditions are met:
- Your net wealth (assets minus debts due) is at or above the Nisab.
- You have held that wealth for one full lunar year (hawl).

- The Nisab is the value of 87.48 g (7.5 tola) of gold or 612.36 g (52.5 tola) of silver. If you own only gold, the gold Nisab applies. If you own a mix of assets, such as cash, silver and gold together, the lower silver Nisab applies.
